The Massachusetts Society of Professors (MSP) is a union consisting of almost 90% of the professors and librarians who work on the UMass Amherst campus. The MSP is an association under the Massachusetts Teachers Association (MTA), which represents 110,000 teachers, administrators, and education support professionals, from pre-k to higher education. MSP works on a number of issues, including fair compensation for campus professors and librarians, protecting the professional integrity of campus academic community, and ensuring professors and educators have a voice in the operations of the UMass campus.
In December of 2014, the MSP passed a resolution supporting not only divestment, but also endoring the UMass Fossil Fuel Divestment Campaign’s goal of divesting the UMass system from the fossil fuel industry. In April of 2015, the MSP released an open letter for all UMass faculty and staff to sign to show their support for divestment.
